The Task We Face

Freddy Davis, Executive Director

As we look at the big picture, things are not right in American society. Our Christian heritage, and even our very faith, are under attack as never before. In the process of trying to put forth their own version of faith, Secularists, and others, are attacking our nation’s very Christian foundation. There is a vicious war going on for the hearts and minds of the people of our nation. It’s being waged in the media, in our classrooms and corporate boardrooms, in the halls of our political institutions and places of worship, and even in front of the water cooler. It is not that having these debates is a bad thing. In fact, they actually provide us with a tremendous opportunity to share our own faith.

But things have moved well beyond the debate stage. The outward expressions of this attack are evident as we witness how it has spilled over into our society over issues such as abortion, sexual morality, religious beliefs, pornography, homosexuality, religion in the public square, drug and alcohol abuse, gambling, the role of the family in society, race relations, the justification for terrorism and war, and many others.

As Christians,we know, intuitively, that there is a line that has been crossed. But too often we are not sure the best way to respond, and feel helpless to do much about it. I believe the main reason for the weakness of our Christian faith is that we have a massive lack of knowledge and understanding regarding the task that is before us. At least in a broad sense, we know what we believe. When we entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our lives were changed and the Spirit of God poured this knowledge into our lives.

The problem, out in the marketplace, is not that we don’t know what we believe, it is that we don’t know why we believe it. When confronted with other beliefs, the average Christian simply doesn’t know how to evaluate and compare them to their Christian faith. Because of this uncertainty and lack of confidence, most find it easier to simply keep quiet and let things slide. I don’t believe this is what most Christians want, but this is mostly what happens, and we often become frustrated by it.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. The Christian faith can stand on its own two feet in the marketplace of ideas. Our faith is not simply a personal and emotional experience, it is a fact! God really exists as an objective person and has revealed himself, his ways and his desires. We can know all of this, and we can know that we know. And we can put this reality up against the false beliefs of any other belief system and expose it.

There are signs that God is up to something in our society, and in localized pockets it is very exciting. But if we are to see a full blown work of God that literally changes our society, it will have to come from the men and women in the marketplace as they become light and salt in the world. It will require a massive movement of confident Christians who know what they believe and are able to express that faith in the world. MarketFaith Ministries was created to help everyday Christians understand their faith in a way that gives them confidence to stand strong for their faith in the marketplace.

As this ministry develops, much more will be added to this website. In the meantime, feel free to explore what is here and feel free to contact us and let us know how we can serve you.
